RAK College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (RAKCOPS), celebrated World Pharmacist Day on 25th September 2019. On this occasion essay writing and oral presentation competitions were organized on the theme “Safe & Effective Medicines for All”. Program started with national anthem followed by Quran recitation by Dr. Omar Sarheed, Associate Professor, Dept. of Pharmaceutics, RAKCOPS.
Dr. Padma GM Rao, Dean, RAKCOPS, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Gurumadhva Rao, President, RAKMHSU, addressed the gathering about the role of Pharmacist in promoting safe & effective use of medicines. This was followed by the oral presentation competition by the students. Twenty-two students participated in the competitions and best three essay writings and oral presentations were awarded. Program was concluded by vote of thanks by Ms. Fasiha Walayat Shah, Senior Lecturer, Dept. of Pharmaceutics, RAKCOPS. Program was attended by the students, faculty, and staff of RAKCOPS and RAKMHSU University officials.
On Friday, 27th September 2019, Dept. of Supply & Stores, Ministry of Health & Prevention (MOHAP), RAK Medical District, Ras Al Khaimah, in association with RAK College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (RAKCOPS), RAK Medical & Health Sciences University (RAKMHSU) organized community engagement activities as part of the World Pharmacist Day celebrations in Manar Mall, Ras Al Khaimah.
Both B. Pharm and MS students of RAKCOPS participated in poster presentations and various health screening services. During poster presentation sessions, students shared disease and management related information to the general public of Ras Al Khaimah on common ailments such as Stroke, Autism, Osteoporosis and Migraine. In addition, there were educative posters on medication abuse in obesity, homeopathy and herbal medicines. Students interacted with the general public and briefed them how Pharmacists along with other healthcare providers can help the patients, in the better management of the common clinical conditions.
Students also took part as volunteers in performing health screening services such as monitoring of blood glucose, screening for cardiovascular diseases, and obesity. They also had an opportunity to counsel and guide the public with abnormal results for suitable management strategies.
RAKCOPS students had a great opportunity to implement their practice related knowledge and skills and demonstrate their role as Pharmacists in the healthcare team by involving themselves in this event. They also interacted with the members of MOHAP and the general public of Ras Al Khaimah that helped them to understand the scope of their services as an integral part of the healthcare team in creating a healthy community. MOHAP presented mementoes to Dean, RAKCOPS, RAKMHSU and certificates for all the participants as a token of appreciation.
We thank Dr. Gurumadhva Rao, President-RAKMHSU, Dr. Padma GM Rao, Dean-RAKCOPS, Dr. Fatema Mohamed Al Qatami, Head-Dept. of Supply & Stores, MOHAP, Dr. Najia Alvi, MOHAP Coordinator- World Pharmacist Day-2019 and all the members from Dept. of supply & stores, MOHAP, student participants, faculty and staff of RAKCOPS & RAKMHSU who supported in successfully conducting the event to the public that has given prominence to RAKCOPS & RAKMHSU in general and to the profession of Pharmacy in particular.
