1. How does one reach Ras Al Khaimah?

Ras Al Khaimah is located 100km from Dubai and 80 Km from Sharjah which are well connected by air and road. One can reach Ras Al Khaimah within 60 minutes drive from Dubai airport and within 50 minutes from Sharjah airport through Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road formerly known as Emirates Road.

2. What are the programs offered by RAKMHSU?

RAKMHSU offers Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) since September 2006 and Bachelor of Dental Sciences (BDS), Bachelor of Pharmacy (B Pharm), Bachelor of Nursing (BSc Nursing) since September 2007. A 2 year bridge program in nursing (RN-BSN) was started in September 2008 to enable the diploma holders to upgrade to Bachelor Degree in Nursing. Master of Science in Nursing, M.S. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and M.S. in Pharmacy Practice commenced in 2011&12 respectively. All programs have been granted accreditation by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, UAE.

3. Are the programs offered by RAKMHSU recognized?

Yes, all the programs above offered by RAKMHSU have been granted accreditation by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, UAE. RAK College of Medical Sciences is also listed in AVICENNA Directory. Please refer the SI. No:4 below for more details.

4. Is the Medical College listed in W.H.O?

The AVICENNA directory for medicine has replaced the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools. The AVICENNA Directory for medicine is a public database of worldwide medical schools, schools of pharmacy, schools of public health and educational institutions of other academic health professions. The Avicenna Directories are maintained by the University of Copenhagen in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). 5. Whether students can enroll for graduate programs in other countries after completing MBBS and can they work in other countries?

As all the programs have been granted accreditation by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, UAE, graduates of RAKMHSU shall be able to do their Masters programs in any part of the world, after fulfilling the requirements of that particular country including the qualifying exams of those countries.

6. Once an Indian student completes his/her studies at RAKMHSU, will he/she be able to proceed further to India for higher studies and be able to write the MCI screening test? Can he/she practice in India?

Upon qualifying in the MCI Screening Test (Medical Council of India), he/she can proceed with further process of registration to practice in India or pursue higher studies in India.Student may refer http://www.mciindia.org for further details.

7. Should one come down to RAK MHSU Campus for receiving /submitting the application form?

No, It is not required to directly come to the campus. Students can fill in the online application form available on our website. 9. What are the minimum requirements for applying to the MBBS program in RAKMHSU?

  • Aggregate of 80% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in 12th grade/UAE National General Secondary School Examination (NGSSE) or its equivalent with minimum of 70% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually.   • Proficiency of English equivalent to a TOEFL score of 500 in paper based, 173 in computer based or 61 in internet based tests/ its equivalent in standardized tests such as IELTS score of 5.0.

10. Whether marks of 12th grade/qualifying exams only are considered for admission? Is there any separate entrance test?

Yes. Applications are evaluated strictly on marks secured in 12th grade/NGSSE/AS levels. TOEFL/IELTS score is also mandatory as elaborated above. There is no separate entrance test. However students will be administered an aptitude questionnaire to assess their interest in pursuing a health science program.

11.What are the documents required to be submitted at the time of admission?

The following original documents are required to be submitted at the time of admission along with two sets of photocopies:

  • Marks card of 12th grade or NGSSE or equivalent.
  • Conduct/ character certificate or Reference Letter to be obtained on the School/College letter head.
  • 10 recent and identical passport size photographs. Additional 10 photographs to be submitted by those who require student visa.
  • Copy of the passport valid for at least one year.
  • Copy of the current residential visa (for students who are already residing in UAE).
  • TOEFL score (not earlier than two years) of 500 in paper based, or 173 in computer based or 61 in internet based /its equivalent in standardized tests such as IELTS score of 5.0. Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE A) score range of 36-41 is accepted for entry to undergraduate programs.

13. When is the last date for submitting the application form to RAKMHSU?

For the Sept 2014 session, the last date for submitting the application form is 15th July 2014. Late applications will be received up to 10th Aug 2014 subject to availability of seats.

14. When will be the result of the selection / admission known?

Application of candidates fulfilling all requirements will be processed as soon as the 12th transcript & TOEFL score are received and applicant will be informed of the admission status at the earliest.

15. Can one apply to RAKMHSU before obtaining the result of 12th grade/qualifying exam or TOEFL/IELTS marks card?

Yes. However, the application will be considered for admission only on submitting the mark sheet of the 12th grade/ qualifying examination and TOEFL / IELTS score card within the dates mentioned in the Admission Schedule.

16. Can one submit an application after the admission deadline?

Yes. However, the late applications received along with all the supporting documents after the admission deadline will be considered depending upon the availability of seats. Top

18. Is there any facility for fee payment in installments?

There are two semesters in an academic year and the fees are collected semester-wise. The entire tuition fee per semester should be paid before the beginning of each semester as per the payment schedule indicated by the University from time to time.

19. When should one remit the admission/tuition fee for the first semester?

The first semester tuition fee and other fees mentioned in the admission bulletin have to be paid as per the communication received after the admission is confirmed.

20. Are there any scholarships/ fee concessions facility available in RAKMHSU?

15% concession in the tuition fee is provided for all students securing above 95% in aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Biology in 12th grade/UAE NGSSE/equivalent. This concession is limited to the first year only.

Subsequently, a student who secures a GPA of 3.8 or above on a 4.0 scale in the year ending examination of the programs shall be entitled for a concession of 15% in the tuition fee for the following year.

23. Are there any extra curricular activities/facilities available at RAKMHSU?

Yes, Gymnasium and sports facilities for certain indoor games like table-tennis, chess are provided. Outdoor sports facilities are also made available. Cultural activities and other activities such as quizzes, debates, Scientific Conferences, CME's, Career Development sessions and other important celebrations including National Day Celebrations etc are also arranged.

24. Are there facilities for transportation for day scholars?

25. Does the University provide student visas?

Yes, the University provides student visas as per the UAE Immigration rules and regulations. Admission of International Students will depend on the student visa being granted as per UAE Immigration rules and regulations. 26. Is housing facility/accommodation provided for students?

Yes, housing facility is provided both on single as well as on sharing basis. Separate accommodation is provided for men and women.

27. On completing studies at RAKMHSU, will one be able to directly apply for a job in UAE or one has to write the Ministry of Health Exam?

UAE Nationals:
Upon the successful completion of 12 months of rotational internship training, Emirati students are eligible to get job placements in UAE health sector and need not appear for MOH licensing exam.

Expatriate Students:
Upon the successful completion of 12 months of rotational internship training, expatriate students are required to undergo two years of work experience in and/or outside of UAE, which will enable them to appear for the UAE Ministry of Health licensing examination.

27. Will one be able to practice as a doctor in other Gulf countries when he/she completes studies at RAKMHSU?

Of course yes, however after fulfilling the respective country's Ministry of Health prerequisites.

29. Does the University admit transfer students?

Yes, the admission committee will assess the eligibility of a transfer student after evaluation of transcripts as per the transfer policy of the University. The list of documents to be provided by transfer students are mentioned under the admission link on the home page.
