RAK Medical and Health Sciences University celebrated its second convocation ceremony on Sunday 30th September 2012. The ceremony was organized with the gracious presence of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, and the Chancellor of the University.
The Guest of Honour was Prof. Kamal Bani-Hani, President, the Hashemite University, Jordan & Dean, Faculty of Medicine. The convocation was held at RAKMHSU Auditorium.
The ceremony started with a speech by the University Vice Chancellor, Dr. Gurumadhva Rao. In his speech Dr Rao welcomed HH Sheikh Saud and appreciated his dynamic leadership and his continuous support to the education sector in general, and to RAKMHSU in particular. Dr Rao also shared the progress and development witnessed by the University during the last six years, mentioning that it would never have happened without the support of His Highness Sheikh Saud. The quality education delivered by RAKMHSU, along with the clear mission, vision and objectives of the University have made it a leading Health Science educational institution not only in UAE, but also in the entire region, said the Vice Chancellor. He also thanked UAE Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific research for their support and guidance.
HH Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi started his address with conveying his congratulations to the graduates and to their families. HH expressed his happiness for the progress achieved by the University during a short span of six years.
Following his address, HH Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi awarded “The Chancellor’s Gold Medal” to a top student from each program. The “Vice Chancellor’s Merit List” awards were also distributed by the Vice Chancellor to the graduating students with CGPA 3.75 and above.
The Academic Awards were also distributed to the three top students from each program.
86 graduating students from the Bachelor of General Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Dentistry (BDS), Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) and Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) as well as the RN-BSN bridge program, received their Degrees from His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi. The Convocation was well attended by the University faculty, staff and families of the graduating students in addition to the members from the Royal Family, RAK Government and other dignitaries from RAK and other Emirates.
