16th Annual National convention of APTI in Moga, Punjab, India, 7th to 9th Oct 2011

16th Annual National convocation of Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI) was held at ISF College of Pharmacy, Moga, Punjab, India from 7th to 9th Oct 2011. About 600 registered delegates from different parts of India representing academia, research, industry and practice attended.
Large number of post graduate students and research scholars also attended the conference. several awards of recognition, appreciation were presented to the deserving pharmacy teachers. Latest issues of Indian journal of Pharmaceutical education and research(IJPER), Indian journal of Pharmacy Practice(IJOPP), APTI news bulletin, conference souvenir and abstract books were released.

Dr. Nagavi, Dean made a presentation on "Role of Institutional Research for Excellence". It was attended by about 200 delegates. In his presentation Dr. Nagavi highlighted the role of Institutional research specifically student surveys of the courses and the faculty. The survey results were used for continuous improvement and strengthening of the courses, delivery process, continuous assessment and training. The presentation was followed by discussions.

"Role of Pharmacists in Mental Health", Corniche Sheraton, Abu Dhabi, 15th Oct 2011

The Vice Chancellor, Dr. S Gurumadhva Rao, Dean RAKCOPS, Dr. BG Nagavi and Associate Dean, Dr. Padma GM Rao, attended a CME conference in Corniche Sheraton, Abu Dhabi on 15th Oct 2011. Around 60 registered delegate pharmacists working in community, hospital and clinical pharmacy attended the program. The CME was arranged jointly by HAAD, Abdu Dhabi, RAK Medical & Health Sciences University, RAK and CMC Group. The CME was arranged with an educational grant from Lundbeck Inc. Denmark. Presentations on mood disorders and schizophrenia were informative and useful.

"Role of Pharmacists in Smoking cessation"- Yas Island, Rotana, Abu Dhabi, 28th Oct 2011

9 students and 3 faculty members attended a CME in Abu Dhabi on "Smoking Cessation- Training program for Pharmacists" on 28th Oct 2011(Friday). The program was very informative and the presentations were well organized. The sessions on hazards of smoking role of Pharmacists in prevention and control of smoking were interesting.

Students & faculty have a plan to initiate steps to start smoking cessation clinic in the University in 2012 for the benefits of student, faculty, staff and general public. The program was jointly organized by MCC group, Accredited for 6 CME hours by HAAD, Abu Dhabi in affiliation with RAK Medical & Health Sciences University and in association with Novartis.

Events in RAKCOPS

World Pharmacists Day on 13th Oct 2011

World Pharmacists Day was celebrated by RAKCOPS on 13th Oct 2011, with the theme "Compromising Safety and Quality – A Risky Path". All the B.Pharm students, faculty, University officers and others participated, in a half a program in University Auditorium.

Dr. S Gurumadhva Rao, Vice Chancellor inaugurated the World Pharmacist Day 2011. VC appreciated the role of Pharmacists in healthcare and encouraged students to develop their knowledge and skills to serve the society.

An essay competition on the theme was arranged in which 13 students participated. A Oral presentation competition on theme was arranged for the students in which 6 students made power point presentations on the area related to the above theme. Best essay and Oral presentation were given certificates of appreciation.

The program was compered and conducted by the students of B.Pharm, with faculty support.
