RAK College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (RAKCOPS) is a fast progressing pharmacy college, building on its strengths of good teaching and close attention to student needs. Key ingredients of RAKCOPS education are capable faculty, talented student body and internationally acceptable academic programs. The college is located in a beautiful campus along with RAK College of Medical Sciences and RAK College of Nursing with all the facilities. Ethnic diversity and geographical amalgamation of faculty and students add unique flavor to the multicultural and multinational University.
In the last 4 years, the college has consolidated its efforts to build quality at various levels while expanding its outreach activities. Vision, mission, goals & objectives have been modified and adopted to give a clear direction for progress. Academic programs are continuously fine tuned to meet the demands of 21st century with sharing and caring attitude. This will enable the students to become globally acceptable. New courses such as Physical Pharmacy, Cosmetics, Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry have been added. From 2011-12 Biopharamceutics & Pharamcokinetics will be added as new course in the 5th semester.
Establishment of a Clinical Pharmacy Department in Obaidullah Hospital in December 2009 is yet another feather in the cap for the College. Patient counseling, Drug information, Medication review and other services are provided to the patients and doctors. Micromedex and other IT resources are utilized fully to provide all types of clinical pharmacy services.
The University signed a MOU with University of Findlay, USA in Nov 2010 for academic exchange programs. MOUs signed earlier with Himalaya Drug Company & Julphar Pharmaceutical Company support the ongoing academic activities and research. Scientific papers have been published in peer reviewed journals.
Starting with the Dean in 2007, we now have 13 full time faculty and 3 support staff, to meet the needs of the program. From a student strength of 22 in 2007, we have grown to 86 in the last four years. Facilities are upgraded continuously to improve academic outcomes. Excellent administrative support and encouragement from the University enables the college to move on. Further the college is planning to offer Maters Program from September 2011 as the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) has granted initial accreditation.
I am very optimistic that the college will develop as an institution of repute and meet all the professional requirements of UAE and the Middle East in the years to come.
