Bachelor of Pharmacy - B.Pharm


The Curriculum In the foundation (first) semester students will be taught general education courses such as Mathematics, English, Health Sciences Comm. In Arabic, Health Sciences Comm.In English, Chemistry, Islamic Culture & Medicine and Computer Skills.

In the first year(1st and 2nd Semester) the students will be exposed to courses including organic, inorganic, analytical chemistry, human anatomy and physiology, Physical pharmacy and Pharmaceutics.The emphasis will be to lay a broad foundation through the basic courses.

In the second year(3rd and 4th semester), students will be exposed to pharmacy courses like Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Pathophysiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacognosy&Phytochemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmacy Laws, and Pharmacy Ethics & Decision Making. The courses will widen the horizon of students to appreciate role of pharmacists in healthcare.

In the third year (5th and 6th semester), students will study Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Therapeutics, Biotechnology, Cosmetics and Community Pharmacy. Practical and hospital rounds will make learning need oriented, task based and to achieve specific objectives.

In the final year (7th and 8th semester), students will be taught Hospital Pharmacy, Management, Statistics & Research Methodology, Industrial Pharmacy and Instrumental Analysis. Practical components will develop skills of analysis, management and pharmacy practice.

In the 9th semester students will undergo practice school in the hospital, community pharmacy and pharmaceutical industry. This will expose the students to real life situations and prepare them to face challenges in their working career.

  • Chemistry Prerequisites: None
    This is a one semester, 4-credit course aimed at providing basic facts, concepts, and terminology of chemistry that are essential to understand the biological and medical phenomena. It covers organic and inorganic chemistry, from atomic structure through oxygen-carbon dioxide transport in blood. The course stresses the relationship between chemistry and the life processes with discussions on electronic structure of atom, chemical bonding, acids and bases, oxidation-reduction, nuclear chemistry and radio-activity. It also explains the various chemical processes taking place in the body during normal and abnormal metabolism.

    The goal of this course is to teach basic computer skills necessary in an academic environment including, use of the internet and other computer programs for research and data analysis.

    This course covers the basic skills of the English language that are required at the undergraduate level of studies in medical sciences. It focuses on reading, writing, listening and speaking effectively in English. A comprehensive review of essential syntax and semantics required for medical education is provided.

    This is one semester, 3-credit course aimed at providing basic facts, concepts, and terminology of mathematics that are essential to understand the applied mathematics used in medical and health sciences. It covers general mathematics, pre-calculus, algebra, calculus with analytic geometry and statistics.

    This course aims at teaching Communication Skills in Arabic language. The course focuses on the skills of Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. The broad goal of this course is to enable the students to have better understanding of Arabic language to communicate with patients and hospital staff in their profession.

  • Islamic Culture and Medicine Prerequisites: None
    This course is designed to develop a better understanding of Islamic belief and its application in life, besides focusing on current modern medical and science issues in Islam. The broad goal of this course is to enable the students to have better understanding of Islamic medical issues and appreciation of Islam as a way of life, its impact in the field of medicine, the contribution of Islam to medical in general, and to sciences in particular.
